ABSTRACT

In the last decade there have been developments in the field of education, especially related to the establishment of boarding schools either by carrying an additional curriculum in religious as well as national-based. This can not be separated from the parental unrest on the development of teenagers association, the rampant circulation of drugs, the security of metropolitan and regional cities, the reason some parents send their children in boarding school (boarding school). This study is a study of the relationship between parental social support and social adjustment in the school environment with academic achievement of boarding school students. The sample of this research is consist of 92 students of VIII grade of Integrated Islamic Junior High School (SMPIT) Assyfa Boarding School Subang Regency of West Java. The research method used in this research is descriptive method and correlation study with two independent variables, namely parental social support and social adjustment in school environment and one dependent variable, that is academic achievement. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between the social support of parents with academic achievement, that is equal to 0820. That is, the greater the social support the parents perceived by the students, the better the academic achievement that can be achieved by the students. A deeper study of the relationship of parental social support in the form of instrumental support with academic achievement shows the correlation value of 0.798 and the relationship of social support form emotional support with academic achievement is 0.654. Meanwhile, based on the correlation value of 0.112 on the relationship between social adjustment in school environment with academic achievement showed no relationship between social adjustment in school environment with academic achievement. In other words, there are other factors beyond the social adjustment in the school environment, both internal and external factors related to student achievement, although social adjustment in the school environment is an important part of a teenager’s development.
