ABSRACT

This study aims to determine (1) the student’s thinking process in describing problems and (2) the ability of students to solve problems in the form of quizzes. This research was conducted at IKIP PGRI Madiun in the Biology Study Program, especially in the course of Cell Biology. The sample used was semester IIA students with 26 students. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data retrieval techniques using reflection learning on the use of learning journals and direct observation. The study was conducted seven times face to face with basic competencies referring to the appropriate Cell Biology course planned. The results showed that on 1-3 face to face, students still did not show a systematic mindset with a percentage of 44.64%; 56.92%, and 61.54%. While students show a systematic thinking process on TM4-7 with a percentage of 73.85%; 76.19%; 79.22%; and 83.85%. While understanding the concept from each face-to-face meeting is 50%; 38.46%; 11.54%; 53.85%; 50%; 69.23%; and 76.92%.
