ABSTRACT

This study aims to determine the effect of GA3 on various concentrations on flowering, quantity and quality of red curly chili seeds. Also to know the concentration of GA3 is most appropriate in increasing the flowering, quantity and quality of red curly chili seeds so it is expected to reduce the loss of flowers and fruits. The research was conducted at farmer’s field in Sumberrahayu Village, Moyudan, Sleman, Yogyakarta with inceptisol soil type and in Seed Technology Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Cultivation, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. This research used Randomized Complete Randomized Block Design (RAKL) with single factor treatment ie 4 pace concentration ie 0 ppm (G0), 20 ppm (G1), 40 ppm (G2), and 60 ppm (G3) with 3 replications, the total number of research units is 12 units. The treatment used was the use of growth regulator solution (GA3). The steps in this study consisted of the preparation of tools and materials, preparation of seeds and seed germination. Field variables observed were flowering age, percentage of fall, number of fruits, number of flowers, harvest age, number of fruit, seed number, seed weight, and yield, while in the laboratory observed were 100 seeds, germination style, vigor index , and vigor hypothetical seeds. The data obtained were analyzed using SAS 9.1.3 software and if there was any real difference tested further with Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level and Orthogonal Polynomial to determine optimal dose. The results showed that the effect of GA3 real treatment of 20 ppm can reduce the fall of interest by 42.69% so that the number of planting flowers increased 33.98% causing the number of fruit crops increased by 36.64%. Thus, the number of seeds and weight of 100 seeds also increased significantly by 59.18% and 0.083%. Flowering age and actual harvesting age can be shortened by GA3 40 ppm. Optimal dose for variable age of flowering equal to 36 ppm, percentage of fall flowers of 43.36 ppm, harvest age of 36.58 ppm, number of seeds 31.56 ppm, seed weight of 30.5 ppm, and weight of 100 seeds of 18.75 ppm. The influence of GA3 was not significant at concentrations of 20, 40, and 60 ppm on control (0 ppm) on the number of deciduous fruits, the number of finished fruits, plant crop weight, germination, vigor index, and hypothetical vigor index. Thus the influence of GA3 can increase the quantity and quality of red curly chili seeds.
