ABSTRACT

Breast Milk (ASI) is the main food for infants aged 0-6 months. Breast milk produced is influenced by food intake and maternal nutrition history. Anemia is one of the nutritional problems caused due to lack of micronutrient intake such as iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12. Maternal anemia will be related to maternal performance, quality and quantity that will affect baby’s nutritional status. Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship of anemia in breastfeeding mothers with nutritional status of infants aged 0-6 months. Method: Cross Sectional research design with a sample of 51 breastfeeding mothers with infants aged 0-6 months. The sample is determined by Purposive Sampling. The data studied included maternal hemoglobin levels determined by Cyanmethemoglobin method, infant weight was measured by Baby Scale, exclusive breastfeeding was known through interview, and micronutrient intake was obtained through Recall form 3×24 hours then calculated with nutrisoft. The test used is Chi Square test. Results: The results showed that 60.78% of breast-feeding mothers experienced anemia and 3.92% of infants aged 0-6 months experienced less nutrition. The mean maternal hemoglobin rate was 11.75 ± 1.19 SD and the mean for z / score of infant BB / U of 0.08 ± 1.05 SD. There was no significant correlation between the incidence of anemia in breastfeeding mothers with nutritional status of infants aged 0-6 months (p = 0.75). Conclusion: There is no correlation between the incidence of anemia in breastfeeding mothers with nutritional status of infants aged 0-6 months.
