ABSTRACT

Research has been carried out to determine the growth and yield of corn, peanuts, and ginger at several levels of development of teak-based agroforestry systems. The study was arranged in a complete randomized block design (RAKL) single factor with three blocks as replications. The single factor is the level of development of teak-based agroforestry systems, namely the initial, middle and advanced phases. Observations were made on the variables of growth and yield of corn, peanuts and ginger. The data obtained were analyzed for variance (ANOVA) at the 5% level, and continued with Duncan’s multiple distance test if there were significant differences between treatments. The results of the study provide information that the level of development of teak stands affects the growth and yield of intercrops. Corn in the early stages of agroforestry has higher growth and yield when compared to the middle and advanced phases. However, peanuts have the same growth and yield when planted in the early and middle stages of agroforestry. Meanwhile, in the advanced stages of agroforestry peanuts have low growth and yield compared to the early and middle phase agroforestry. Unlike maize and peanuts, ginger has the highest growth and yield in middle-phase agroforestry. Therefore, the recommended plants for the early phase teak-based agroforestry are corn and peanuts (as a source of food and ruminant feed). In the middle phase agroforestry can be planted with ginger as an herbal ingredient. Meanwhile, advanced phase agroforestry has the potential as a source of ruminant feed if under teak stands planted with corn and peanuts
