ABSTRACT

The growth and development of lettuce requires nutrients which usually come from synthetic and organic chemicals. Rice or leri laundry water can be used as additional nutrition for lettuce because it contains various nutrients needed by plants. This study aims to determine the effect of the type and level of rice washing water on the growth and yield of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). The study was conducted from 12 June 2011 to 7 August 2011 in the Babarsari hamlet, Catur Tunggal Village, Depok District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. The study consisted of two factors that were arranged in a Complete Randomized Block Design with 3 blocks as replications. The first factor is the type of rice washing water which consists of red rice washing water and white rice washing water. The second factor is the level of rice washing water, namely first laundry, second laundry and third laundry. Lettuce without rice washing water acts as a control. The results showed that the type and content of rice washing water did not provide different canopy growth and yield, but white rice washing water produced better root growth than brown rice washing water.
