ABSTRACT

A nation that seeks to create a qualified and full potential young generation / youth should not only emphasize the importance of intellectual intelligence (IQ), but emotional intelligence (EQ) needs to be developed. However, to note is that to develop emotional intelligence in adolescents is not an easy matter. In this period, adolescents experience many changes that can cause emotional upheaval, this is because adolescents have to learn to adapt and accept all the changes that happen to him. Teens who judge themselves negatively can be said to have a low self-concept. While adolescents who have positive self-concept will be able to accept the advantages and disadvantages that exist in him, and able to manage and motivate himself, so it can mean the teenager has a good emotional intelligence. Subjects were 70 people. Measuring tool used is first, Tennesse Self Consept Scale (TSCS) translation Nurhidayah (1996) compiled and developed by Fitts (1965). Second, the emotional intelligence scale that reveals the five components of Goleman’s emotional intelligence (1998). The results showed that there is a positive relationship between self-concept with emotional intelligence in adolescents.
