ABSTRACT

This study aims to find out: 1. The use of LMS-based learning journal to monitor student learning progress effectively, 2. The effectiveness of LMS-based learning journal in Animal Embryology course in improving students’ concept understanding and 3. Impression and responses of students to the use of study journals based LMS in Animal Embryology courses. The research is a quasi experimental research with population of Biology education students. The subject of this research is the students of Biology Education Program of FKIP UNS Surakarta Semester VI of 2010 SBI program of 21 students. This research product is study journal in LMS based group. The research design was using quasi experiment, with post test design design. Students send their learning journal results via LMS with moodle.Dirberikan deadline for sending study journal as an indicator to monitor student learning. As for the students’ understanding on Animal Embryology material obtained from the value of cognitive tests. Based on the results of research that has been carried out can be drawn the conclusion that the use of learning journals based on LMS: (1) effective to monitor student learning progress, (2). effectively improving the understanding of the students in the Animal Embryology Course and (3) the assessment of lecturers’ performance in learning increases.
