ABSTRACT

The enactment of the Law on Educational Legal Entity (UU BHP) by the Government, has made an educational institution to be managed like a corporate industry, where the optimization of management management in various fields must be done in order to compete with public and private universities in order to survive, and developing as a means of continuing education in society. The key to competition in the field of education is the total quality of the graduates, the quality of the cost, the quality of service, the moral quality and other quality forms given to customers in this case are the students who ultimately create loyalty, which impact on the creation of “brand loyality “to the community. To assess the success of the business is done by performance measurement, which evaluates the work of management in the past period. Balanced Scorecard is a comprehensive / comprehensive business performance appraisal method considering 4 (four) perspectives: financial perspective, customer perspective, internal business process perspective, and learning process perspective and growth. Performance appraisal at Muhammadiyah University was done in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Data type is quantitative data and qualitative data and consists of primary data and secondary data. The results of the study concluded as follows: Performance from a financial perspective shows good liquidity and solvency capabilities, but the ability to produce residual business results is still low and even tends to decline due to the large cost increases each year that need to be evaluated factors cause. Unimus performance from the customer perspective of retention and customer acquisitions show that it is able to maintain the number of students even increase the number each year on certain faculties so it needs a more precise marketing strategy to increase the number of students on other less desirable faculties. From the questionnaire distributed showed that the students are satisfied with Unimus service. The income from the total number of students has not shown the ability to generate profitable profit. Unimus performance from the perspective of internal business process shows the improvement of service quality by the administrative staff and the functional staff (lecturer) to the students. Unimus from the perspective of learning and growth as a whole is good, but it needs to focus attention on employee productivity that decrease because the rest of the business result is also getting smaller (deficit). But the results of questionnaires show satisfied employees to university management
