ABSTRACT

Community livelihood activities in Hargobinangun Village located in the northern Zone of the majority are tourism business actors. Tourism business in the form of food stalls, lodging, jeep tours, and street vendors. Merapi eruption events in 2010, negatively impact on livelihood capital, activities, and strategies of citizens in survival. This study uses the method of indepth interview. Interviews assisted with an open questioner. Primary data is the main data in this study. Respondents were selected using Snowball and Purposive sampling methods. Data analysis is done with description, assisted tables and drawings. Citizens of tourism businesses that are victims of Merapi eruption in 2010, mostly continue their tourism business with limited capital and conditions. Livelihood capital that is negatively affected is physical capital in the form of garden land and financial capital, due to a drastic decline in income. Livelihood strategies used by citizens to adapt to the environment are saving, innovating, environmentally sensitive, and more appreciative of nature.
